A Peek Into My Week
Hawaiian Getaway – Oahu and Maui
My husband and I just returned from a week in Hawaii. We stayed at the Moana Surfrider in Waikiki and then at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort on Maui. It was nice to get away. We hadn’t been to Maui without kids since our 10th wedding anniversary and we’re celebrating our 29th this month! It’s funny how few pictures we take now compared to the hundreds we used to take of our kids while vacationing here with them. However, I did manage to snap a few to share.

We’ve stayed in Waikiki many times, usually at the Royal Hawaiian. This time around we tried out the Moana Surfrider, another beautiful and historic hotel. Unfortunately we ended up staying in the older wing of the hotel in a room that was maybe 100 square feet. We couldn’t walk past one another at the foot of the bed, it was that small. We were close to the beach and had a nice view out of a small window, but that was about it. First world problems, I know.

Our room’s furnishings could have used a refresh as well. In the hotel’s defense, they are in the process of remodeling and refurbishing the lobby and the guest rooms, so hopefully there will be some improvements. We did enjoy morning walks to the base of Diamond Head, the nearby dormant volcano.

There are also lots of designer stores in Waikiki, so it’s pretty much a shopper’s paradise. You can shop on Kalakaua Avenue downtown, or at the large outdoor Ala Moana Shopping Center, a short Uber ride away.

We are always happy to escape the crowds in Honolulu after a few days. This year we hopped over to Maui for the second half of our trip. We spent the first night in Wailea and then headed over to the west side of the island to the Ka’anapali resort area. We spent some lazy days by the pool and the beach, and then went out to dinner each night.

We ended up eating at the Plantation House in Kapalua twice because, unbeknownst to each other, we had each made a separate reservation for different nights. This worked out great because reservations anywhere now are generally hard to come by, especially since the tragic fire in the nearby town of Lahaina. We also ate at our favorite sushi restaurant, Sansei, and had dinner another night at Duke’s. All in all a very nice, relaxing trip!

The Nordstrom Sale is Next Week

You know it’s getting close when the catalog arrives in the mail. I don’t really need anything, but it is interesting to see what the top trends are for fall. According to the Nordy’s catalog, they are:
- Short sleeve sweaters
- Work pants
- Straight leg jeans
- Kitten heels
- Suede and leather aviator-style jackets
- Handbags and belts in deep shades of wine and berry
- Layered necklaces
- Suede boots and booties
- Matching workout sets
- Pale pink or nude lipstick
Here’s a sneak peek of my wish list for this year’s sale. I like the Frank & Eileen fleece jogger set. The Veronica Beard slip-on sneakers aren’t technically part of the Anniversary sale, but they’re currently on new markdown. The short sleeve Lauren Ralph Lauren sweater isn’t part of the sale either, but I love the fall colors of it. The army green wide-leg ankle pants are also Frank & Eileen. Both creamy beige sweaters are by Lauren Ralph Lauren and would look great with jeans. The Frye boots and COACH leather tote are in my favorite caramel brown color. I have been looking for a pair of pearl earrings and these gold hoop ones are super pretty. Like I said, I don’t need anything, but it doesn’t hurt to look!

I mentioned last time that since I’m a cardholder, I’ll get to shop a few days early. For the first time, I’ve RSVP’d to attend the Ambassador Cardmember Shopping Event on July 9th at my local Nordstrom. I thought it would be fun to see the clothes in person instead of only online. I’m not really looking for anything in particular, but I will be taking inventory of my closet and donating any clothes that no longer fit or serve my needs prior to the sale.
Home Improvement Projects
Speaking of my closet…I’m not sure this counts as a home improvement project, but I know my life will definitely improve once I organize the my closet! Things have gotten a little out of hand in there! I may need to move some of the Elfa shelving around to accommodate my storage needs. One of the things I haven’t added to my closet yet and need to are these purse shelf dividers from the Container Store.

The other thing I might want are these clear stackable storage drawers for shoes and bags that I don’t use very often.

The good news is that everything at the Container Store is currently 25% off for the 4th of July. I guess that’s a sign that it’s time to get organized!
Currently Reading
I just read The Inmate by Freida McFadden while on vacation. I thought it was entertaining and had a good creepy twist at the end. It was a perfect lounge chair book. I’m looking for another good summer read. Let me know in the comments if you have a recommendation!

Currently Watching
Landman
I knew I would like this series because I’m a huge Yellowstone fan. I binge-watched the first season on our flights to and from Hawaii. Landman is an upstairs/downstairs drama about the oil industry and centers on Billy Bob Thornton’s character Tommy Norris, a landman for a private oil company in west Texas. His boss is played by Jon Hamm who is superb in his role. Demi Moore plays Jon Hamm’s wife. I’m looking forward to seeing how they flesh out her character in the second season. Ali Larter plays the ex-wife of Thornton’s character Tommy and she often steals the show. The younger cast members, including Jacob Lofland and Michelle Randolph, who play Thornton and Larter’s children, are also terrific. If you loved Yellowstone, you should definitely check it out Taylor Sheridan’s latest hit.
My Latest Amazon Favorite
Three words: automatic soap dispenser. I bought one of these for both of our places and they are a game-changer! I got tired of wiping up all of the water around our soap pump dispenser at the kitchen sink. Now we just wave our hand under the dispenser and it puts the perfect amount of soap on our hand – no more water splashing all over the counter. Plus, they’re rechargeable, so no need to worry about batteries. They also include a wall mount bracket if you want to save counter space. Highly recommend!
