B2B Weekend Vibes #2

Welcome to B2B Weekend Vibes – a weekly roundup of current goings-on From the Bay to the Beach. Here you’ll find a few of my favorite things, a bit of home decor inspiration, and a peek into my week. Yay – it’s Friday!

A Peek Into My Week

A Quick Trip to the Beach

Campfire Restaurant

We spent a few days down in San Diego over the weekend visiting with our oldest daughter as she prepared to leave the nest for good and move to New York. At her request, we had a delicious celebratory dinner at Campfire Restaurant in Carlsbad. (She didn’t need to twist my arm.) The restaurant is airy and open and is decorated with all kinds of retro camping gear and decor. I describe it as sophisticated kitsch. It was recently mentioned in the 2024 Michelin Guide. Reservations are definitely recommended.

The best thing on their menu is the broccoli. Hear me out. This is not your normal broccoli. It’s crispy roasted with a smear of delicious chermoula sauce underneath. I didn’t snap a picture because we gobbled it up so fast, so I included a picture from another visit. It looks burnt. It is not. Trust me. I would eat this broccoli by itself for dinner.

Instead of devouring another plate of broccoli, I had the market fish, which I ate every last bite of. So good. I didn’t lick the plate, but only because that’s not polite in mixed company. My husband ordered the pork chop which was also good. Both were beautifully presented. My fish was topped with fresh herbs and flowers. My daughter and her boyfriend split the ribeye, along with some ridiculously yummy cheesy potatoes.

Dessert at Campfire is an event in itself. You get to roast homemade marshmallows over hot coals from their oven. Once your mallow is nice and toasty, you smush it between two homemade graham cracker cookies along with a piece of sea salt dark chocolate. I might be drooling as I write this.

Golf

As I mentioned last week, we played in a charity golf tournament benefitting Feed San Diego at a local country club over the weekend. It was a super fun event and we took home a nice bottle of wine from the silent auction. The Jacaranda trees are in bloom all over San Diego with their pretty purple flowers, including on the course.

Home Improvement Projects

While we were in San Diego, we arranged to have the window coverings on all of our ocean-facing windows changed out. The existing black ones provided us some sun protection in the afternoons, but because they were made of a mesh material, at night we felt like were living in a fish bowl. So, we swapped them out for opaque shades that match the existing wall color.

The old black shades are on the left. The new lighter-colored ones are on the right. I love the difference! We have more privacy at night, and the room seems brighter because of the lighter color. We don’t mind the new shades being opaque and blocking the view because we leave them open during the day. Window coverings certainly aren’t cheap, but they really make a difference.

On the Home Front

We’re back in the Bay and have settled in for the summer. The weather has been gorgeous and we’ve been walking our dog Belle around our local reservoir in the evenings. It’s a 2.75 mile loop with a few small hills. We walk it at a good pace, so we feel pretty good about ourselves when we’re done.

Belle loves it there and would walk the loop several times if we could keep up with her!

Apparently, the deer around the reservoir aren’t shy about having their photos taken. This was one of several we spotted on our last walk.

Consignment Shopping

I stopped by our local home consignment store this week to see what they have. I’m always on the hunt for our two homes. I was excited to find these modern brass sconces! They are plug-in and are going to be perfect on either side of our office/guest room sofa bed.

One of the tricks I use when consignment shopping is Google Lens. I snap a pic with it to find the maker and original price of the item I’m interested in. I was able to figure out that these sconces are most likely from Crate and Barrel. They came to the store directly from a model home, so they were lightly used and in perfect condition. Now all I have to do is get them down to San Diego in one piece!

Currently Reading

Another Gorgeous Coffee Table Book – California Coastal: Seaside Living from Sea Ranch to San Diego.

I pre-ordered this book because I knew I would want to read it the moment it was released, and it doesn’t disappoint. California Coastal is full of gorgeous ocean-view homes stretching down the California coastline, from Sea Ranch, just north of San Francisco, all the way down to neighborhood of La Jolla in San Diego county.

As a northern California native, I grew up visiting north coast spots like Sea Ranch, Monterey and Carmel. A little-known fact about the California coastline is that seventy percent of it is cliffs and bluffs, with only thirty percent of it consisting of sandy beaches. The coastline is particularly rugged and rocky in Northern California, so you’re more likely to be scrambling over rocky tide pools than to be lying on a sandy beach. But whether you’re on the rocks or the sand, the California coastline is one of the most beautiful places in the world. For a peek into classic California coastal architecture, I highly recommend this book!

And Just Like That

Fans of Sex and the City, rejoice! Season 3 of “And Just Like That” is being released one episode at a time. (Why won’t they let us binge watch?) This show is silly, fun escapism at its finest. From the over-the-top fashion, to the picturesque scenes of NYC, it’s the perfect summer escape. Plus, it’s nice to see actresses over 50 showing that they are still as relevant today as they were almost thirty years ago.

Shop

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

If you like to shop for clothes, one of the most anticipated sales of the year happens every July – The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I do like to check it out because it’s a chance to buy the latest fashion at a discount, instead of a regular sale where you’re picking over things from last season. It’s also a chance to buy quality items that will last for a while, as opposed to fast fashion that gets donated or tossed after just a few wears.

As a cardmember, I’ll get to shop a few days early. For the first time, I’ve RSVP’d to attend the Ambassador Cardmember Shopping Event on July 9th at my local Nordstrom. I thought it would be fun to see the clothes in person instead of only online. I’m not really looking for anything in particular, but I will be taking inventory of my closet and donating any clothes that no longer fit or serve my needs prior to the sale, so that I’ll have an idea of what to look for.

My Latest Amazon Favorite

I love crisp, white sheets. We have them on every bed in both of our homes. However, it’s challenging to keep them organized. Heaven forbid they get mixed up in the laundry and then we’re playing the “What size is this bedsheet?” game.

These sheet set organizers have been a game-changer for us! You simply fold up the sheet set and then zip it up in the organizer. There is a tiny window so you can see what’s inside and a spot to tuck in a label so you know what size bed they’re for. They line up neatly on the shelf like a little sheet library. Honestly, why did it take me so long to buy these?
