Finding Your Fall Style
Take a peek into your closet. What do you see?
Your answers to these questions matter more than you might think.
Turns out, what we chose to dress ourselves can influence how we decorate our homes. And once you’re tuned in to what your style preferences are, choosing decor for your own spaces becomes less of a guessing game and more of an opportunity to make your home a reflection of you.
For example, If you feel your most confident in a casual outfit of a white shirt, jeans, and some simple jewelry, you’re most likely not going to feel comfortable living in a home that is a riot of color and pattern. On the other hand, if you’re a maximalist when it comes to pulling together your outfits, then your living spaces are likely full of lots of unique and interesting decor and patterns.

For Fall Decor Inspiration, Look No Further Than Your Closet
Take a moment to think about what colors you like to wear and that look good on you. Do you find similar colors throughout your home? I’m willing to bet that you do. There are subconscious preferences at play every time you make a decorating choice for your space. Even something as seemingly inconsequential as a humble decorative pillow is selected based on how it appeals to your own sense of style.
Your Sweaters Tell a Story
Autumn is practically synonymous with sweater weather. Depending on the climate you live in, you might reach for your sweaters for a majority of the year. Or, you might live someplace warm that only requires the lightest of layers in case it’s chilly or the indoor air conditioning is cranked way down. Either way, your preferences for sweaters styles can say a lot about you and your fall decorating tastes.
Cashmere = Classic and Refined
There’s something so luxurious about a cashmere sweater. They’re soft and light and layer beautifully. Cashmere sweaters are the minimalists of the sweater world. They let the quality of their materials speak for themselves in a quiet luxury kind of way.
If you are a cashmere sweater lover, your home is most likely more classic and refined. If this describes you, then your home would look great with classic autumn decor, rather than anything too literal or theme-related. You might choose bold upholstery colors, but the style of your furnishings tends to be more traditional.

Fair Isle = Traditional and Rustic
A fair isle sweater person appreciates good craftsmanship and the heritage of traditional patterns. Traditionally made from wool, fair isle sweaters work well in colder climates. If you find yourself drawn to them, then you may also like cozy home decor with bold traditional patterns and organic materials.
If you have a lot of fair isle sweaters, use them as your inspiration for your autumn decor. Look for blankets and pillows with traditional pattern in colors that complement your existing decor. Leather and suede also have natural textures that can add to the rustic feel of a space.

Cable Knit = Casual and Coastal
Often referred to as fisherman sweaters, cable knits are one of the most casual styles of sweaters. They are named for the twisted, rope-like pattern created by crossing stitches. Traditionally made from either wool or cotton, they have a slightly nautical vibe that goes will with a coastal style of decor.
Subtle sea references and Nantucket vibes are hallmarks of this casual coastal style. Your fall decor might consist of cable knit throws in fall colors, brass shell hurricanes and striped baskets inspired by seaside living.

Argyle = Preppy and Timeless
An integral part of the “grandpa core” aesthetic, argyle is the most preppy of the sweater family. Traditionally made from wool with a diamond-patterned knit, argyle sweaters are often associated with preppy and golf-wear styles.
If you have a love of argyle sweaters, you might be most comfortable surrounding yourself with a preppy aesthetic – think worn leather chairs, overflowing bookcases, brass and deep rich colors, and Old World charm. Your fall decor style is understated and classic.

Your Home, Your Style
Your seasonal home decor choices should be a natural extension of your personal style. Any fall decor should complement your home and you. Don’t let the pumpkin spice mafia on Pinterest tell you that you need to fill your home with lots of bright orange pumpkins and silly scarecrows in order to celebrate the season. If those colors and motifs don’t flatter you or your decor, skip them and find some that do.
By staying true to yourself and your own tastes, you can create an autumn home that is beautifully cozy and welcoming in its own unique way.
