California living, styled for every season

The California Edit

Welcome to The California Edit, a twice-monthly roundup of the things that inspire me most right now. From beautiful interiors and coastal decor, to effortless California style and entertaining finds, this is where I share the best of Golden State living.

June has been good to us! We kicked off summer with trips to both California wine country and Hawaii, two of my favorite places. We celebrated a family birthday with an afternoon at B Cellars in Napa, working our way through some beautiful wine and food pairings, and it was exactly the kind of slow, savoring afternoon that makes it feel like a mini-vacation. Every visit to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys does the same thing to me — I fall in love with California all over again. There is truly nothing like having all of that beauty essentially in your own backyard.

Today’s Edit

On today’s edit, we’re swimming with the fishes! Fish motifs are having a serious moment right now. From accessories and jewelry to home tableware, the marine life aesthetic is showing up everywhere this season, and it feels playful and sophisticated at the same time — very California.

I’ve pulled together some of my favorite finds: a gorgeous sardine-print silk scarf and matching coin purse that feel très French Riviera, a woven fish tote that’s equal parts farmers market and yacht club, a starfish bag charm that will elevate literally any bag you already own, and some aquatic-inspired bracelets that layer beautifully. I’ve also found a flattering plain white tee to get you through the warm summer months. And because I can never stop at just fashion, I also found the most charming sea urchin salt and pepper shakers and some fun fish-themed tableware that would be perfect for a summer dinner on the patio.

Scroll through — I think you’re going to fall in love with a few of these.

Inspiring Tablescapes

Melamine Sealife Dishes

Today’s inspiring space is actually a tablescape featuring fun melamine dinnerware from Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee at Target. The serving pieces are especially charming, like this platter featuring an assortment of shells and sea creatures. I can’t wait to use them for my next summer get-together.

The prices are very reasonable, and of course with melamine you don’t have to worry about using them outdoors. Plus, they’re dishwasher safe – my favorite kind of dishes!

For the Table

Sea Urchin Salt and Pepper Shakers

These adorable sea urchin salt and pepper shakers from Tommy Bahama are perfect for a coastal tablescape or kitchen. They look so realistic that you may have to tell your guests what they’re for! Made from fine bone china, they’re a fun addition to your summer table.

Getting Dressed

Fish Accessories

My inspiration for this post was this gorgeous Starfish Cuff Bracelet by Ettika from Nordstrom. It’s such a fun statement piece for a tropical vacation. The best part is that it looks way more expensive than it is! No need for a stack of bracelets with this beauty.

I’ve been loving bracelets lately. For me, they’re the easiest way to accessorize. Below are ocean-inspired bracelets from Tommy Bahama and Claire V. The Terra Laguna Charm Layered Bracelet from Tommy Bahama makes a statement with tons of charms and multiple chains. The Clare V. Sardine Link Bracelet is made up of (you guessed it!) tiny sardines – unique and adorable!

Here are a couple more from Tommy Bahama that caught my eye. The Harbor Glow Coral Hinge Bracelet is another statement piece that would look stunning on its own. The Sunset Tides Starfish Charm Cord Bracelet has a nautical vibe with the silky cord rope detailing.

Bags, Scarves and Charms

Tote

The fish motif continues with this summery Resort Fish Tote by Tommy Bahama. It has fringe detailing on the top and is fully lined with multiple pockets inside. Pretty and practical!

Scarf

Scarves are also having a moment this year. For a little extra detail, you could tie this Tinned Fish Silk Bandana Scarf from Tommy Bahama on the handle of your bag. You could also wear it around your neck or in your hair.

Coin Purse

If you don’t want to commit to a fish bag, how about a cute little coin purse like this one from Clare V? Free the sardines!

Bag Charm

Bag charms are still going strong and I couldn’t resist this pretty little bag charm with a starfish and pearls. The Starfish Tassel Bag Charm from Tommy Bahama adds a fun coastal vibe to whatever you clip it to.

A Perfect PlainWhite Tee

I’m always on the hunt for a couple of fresh white t-shirts each summer. I have tried on a lot of them recently and this one stood out for being comfortable and flattering. The Peggy Tee by Free People has a comfortable boat neckline and is fitted at the bottom, a nice change from all the boxy cropped tees that are everywhere currently. It’s also 100% cotton which is perfect on hot summer days. Free People tops are generally oversized, so while I normally wear M/L, I sized down to a small in this top. I just have to remember not to put it in the dryer!

Thanks for being here!

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
