Welcome to The California Edit, a twice-monthly roundup of the things that inspire me most right now. From beautiful interiors and coastal decor, to effortless California style and entertaining finds, this is where I share the best of Golden State living.
It’s supposed to be near 80 degrees by the coast today, so we’re ready to soak up the sun. After last month’s stormy and rainy weather, it’s a welcome difference!
Today on the Edit, I’m sharing some classic coastal updates for your home and wardrobe. All of the things I feature here are items that I either own, are on my list to buy at some point, or that I love and thought that you might too.

Inspiring Spaces
I like to start off each Edit with an inspiring space. This Dana Point home in Southern California is a great example of indoor/outdoor living. With a classic Cape Cod exterior and a California casual exterior, I found lots to love. Besides the spectacular ocean view, the interiors are clean, breezy and made for entertaining and relaxing. For the Home
Woven Coffee Table
This woven coffee table from Wayfair is the latest addition to our combination guest/office space. Finding woven or sisal furniture can be a challenge because it’s often a bit too orange for my taste. This one checks all the boxes: good size, nice color, pretty diamond pattern on top, a storage shelf underneath, and best of all – casters. Since we need to move it out of the way when we convert the room from an office into a guest room, having wheels makes it easy to move around. The price is reasonable too. You can find it here!

Round Woven Side Table
We also added a little round woven side table from Target to the room for a flexible side table/nightstand. You can find it here. It’s currently on sale! I don’t buy a lot of furniture from Target, but I often find their accent pieces to be fun and affordable.

Tiny Lamp
Speaking of Target, this cute little lamp is a perfect accent for a kitchen counter. We have a very similar one to this one in our kitchen and it adds just the right amount of light at night. The pleated shade makes it look much more expensive than it is!

Tiny Whale Objects
I have had my eye on these adorable whale figurines from Pottery Barn since last year. In fact, they have been in my cart for a while. It may be time to bring them home. I love the simplicity of their shapes and the fact that they come in both gold and silver. You can find them here.

Summery Shell Artwork
I fell in love with this piece by Lauren Herrera from Pottery Barn. The pale blues, browns and creamy whites would look good in almost any coastal-inspired home. As one of three in a series, it would work well as a stand-alone piece or as a part of a coastal gallery wall.

For the Table
Coral Napkins
These cotton napkins with subtle coral embroidery from Pottery Barn would be perfect for a neutral coastal tablescape. Plus they have a bit of sparkle for a fancy touch! They just went on clearance so act fast. There’s also a matching table throw for a coordinated look.

Coastal Recipe Book
For a taste of the California coast, check out Coastal: 130 Recipes from a California Road Trip. It’s a collection of recipes from some of the most iconic dining spots up and down the coast. It’s part of a collection of things I put together for a California-themed gift basket!
Getting Dressed
Tops – The Classic White Linen Button-down
There’s nothing that says “beach” like a white linen shirt. This one is by Eileen Fisher and it features an oversized fit and a longer length, making it easy to pair with just about any type of bottom. It’s made from organic linen and comes in lots of other colors too.

For a more budget-friendly option, GAP sells this 100% linen shirt. It’s also oversized, plus it’s also available in tall and plus sizes.
Nordstrom carries this white linen shirt that is available in lots of other colors too.
Bottoms – Airy Denim
Madewell has come out with some warm-weather jeans they call “airy denim”. They look soft and light and comfortably loose. The tie at the waist is a fun detail too. Perfect for a stroll on the beach.

Levi’s 501 90s Jeans are another good lightweight option. With nine different washes and three different length, there’s a style for everyone.

What I’m Reading
My latest favorite book on design is Elements of Timeless Style: Creating a Forever Home by Erin Gates. In it, she shares nine of her most recent projects, where she breaks down the how and the why for each interior, along with tips for choosing everything from contractors to paint colors. While her book primarily features homes on the East Coast, her interiors all seem to have that casual coastal appeal. I read it cover-to-cover the day it arrived.
Erin also writes about what it was like to run an interior design firm during COVID, and how her business has evolved since then. I highly recommend adding this book to your collection. You can also follow Erin on Instagram.
