In this post – how to style a pretty Valentine’s Day table, plus free printable place cards!
Whether or not you have any romantic plans on Valentine’s Day, you can still enjoy the holiday with a fun tablescape. Hearts and flowers are a sure way brighten a mid-winter’s day!

Choosing a Theme
When planning a tablescape, I usually choose an inspiration piece. For this tablescape, I wanted to show off our black dining table, so I opted to skip using a table cloth. As I mentioned before in a previous post, I love to use black accents in my designs. In this case, I used the colors black, white and red. Another bit of inspiration came from these adorable heart plates from Target. Unfortunately, they are sold out, but I found some similar here.

Selecting Table Linens
The black and red heart napkins below are perfect for this tablescape. I found them at HomeGoods. I also used my DIY Valentine’s Day napkin rings to add a fun touch. For details on how to make these adorable napkin rings, see my DIY Valentine’s Day Napkin Rings post. They’re super easy to make!

Style a Centerpiece
You will recognize this glass rectangle vase from my How to Upcycle an Old Wreath into a Pretty Centerpiece post. To make it even more fun, I added conversation heart candies around the outside of the arrangement. I opted for faux red and white roses to keep the candy from getting soggy. For details on how I put this centerpiece together, see How to Style a Sweet Centerpiece for Valentine’s Day.

Place Settings and Dishware
For this tablescape, I left the table bare and added a pretty red and white heart runner, also from Target. I then paired some black placemats with braided raffia borders that I already had with our neutral everyday dishware. I found these adorable heart plates at Target (similar here) and they perfectly complement the texture and shine of my dishes.

Some ornate flatware added a fancy touch.
You may have noticed that I omitted glassware in this tablescape. Depending on who you’re dining with, either wine glasses or everyday drinkware would work!
Candles
I couldn’t resist these twisty Valentines Day candles from Target. They add a playful touch to the table. Mixing silver candlestick holders also gives the table a fancy-yet-casual vibe. Red and white tapers would also be pretty.

Decorative Touches
For a finishing touch, I scattered some shiny red heart ornaments along the center of the table.

Personalize with Place Cards
The colors of this table reminded me of Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts, so I designed some place cards to resemble playing cards.
