Welcome!
Hello! If you’re new here – welcome to B2B! I’m Susan and this is my happy little corner of the internet here in California. I’m a retired teacher and I have an amazing husband and three awesome grown kiddos who make me proud every day. We split our time between our homes in the San Francisco Bay Area and in San Diego, which is perfect because we love visiting wineries AND being near the beach. My passions include interior design, coastal home decor, casual California fashion and blogging about all of it. I’m glad you’re here!

A Peek Into My Week(s)
Well, we have lots to catch up on this week. I missed last week’s B2B post because we took a quick trip down to our beach house with our daughter before she heads back to school. We took her to some cool spots in northern San Diego County that have been on our list tofor a while. So much fun!
Pannikin Coffee and Tea Encinitas
We stopped at Pannikin for lunch on Saturday and the food and drinks were delicious. Located in an historic railroad depot, Pannikin serves its own brand of coffee. In fact, you can get Pannikin coffee at the San Diego airport! It’s the perfect spot to hang out and sip on a coffee or tea and grab a bite for breakfast or lunch.

Neel’s Nursery Encinitas
Our next stop was this postage stamp-sized nursery is on the corner opposite Pannikin. It specializes in California Native plants and is a must-stop for anyone passionate about preserving local plants and animals. The nursery surrounds a tiny round building that houses a gift shop brimming with books, stationary, pins, stickers and apparel. There is also a small koi pond on the property. It’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area, especially if you love gardening.

Free Flight Exotic Bird Sanctuary Del Mar
Visiting this exotic bird sanctuary has been high on our list and we finally had time to stop by. It was so worth it! There are dozens of rescued exotic pet birds living on the property and for a small fee visitors can wander around the grounds and offer them food. It was amazing being up close to so many of these beautiful birds. You leave with an appreciation for just how special these birds are how important it is that we care for them. If you are an exotic bird lover (how can you not be?) this link connects to their donation site to support Free Flight’s efforts to rehabilitate these amazing creatures.

Hike Bike Kayak Adventure Tours La Jolla
I’m so glad we took our daughter on this ocean kayak tour! Being out on the water and seeing the area from a new perspective was a really special experience.
We paddled along the coastline with our guides and toured one of the famed sea caves of La Jolla while our guides shared fun stories about some of the history of the area. We also spotted California sea lions and lots of different species of sea birds. I highly recommend taking an ocean kayak tour if you visit. One of the best things about San Diego is its proximity to some of the most beautiful and dramatic coastlines you’ll find anywhere. Be prepared to get wet! But hey, it’s San Diego so the water’s not too chilly!

GreenRow
Have you heard of the company GreenRow? I hadn’t either until I received one of their catalogs in the mail. Turns out they are a sustainable subsidiary of the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. family of brands. Based in San Francisco, their mission is to create a sustainable line of furnishing from scratch. Some of their core values include making products that last and using responsibly-sourced materials. Their catalog is below if you’d like to check it out!

Kindle Unlimited
Have you tried Kindle Unlimited? It’s a great way to read as many books as you want and you get instant access to them! Here are some of my current favorites.
Remarkably Bright Creatures
I have to admit, I have a soft spot for octopuses. Their lives are so short, only about two – four years, and yet they are amazingly intelligent and social creatures. Remarkably Bright Creatures is a novel by Shelby Van Pelt that tells the story of Tova, a 70-year-old widow who forms an unlikely friendship with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living in the aquarium where she works. The narrative explores themes of grief, connection, and the mysteries of the past as Marcellus helps Tova uncover the truth about her missing son.
The Midnight Feast
I love a suspenseful novel. This one has it all – secrets, lies and murder. The Midnight Feast is a mystery thriller by Lucy Foley set at a luxury wellness retreat called The Manor, where secrets and past traumas resurface during a grand opening celebration that culminates in murder. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, revealing the dark connections between the characters and the events that lead to the deadly feast.
Style Guides
I’m always interested in what constitutes great style. I refer to these books whenever I’m in a clothing rut. Both authors are authorities in personal style and speak from years of experience as stylists.
Wear it Well, by Allison Bornstein, includes a 3 Word Method to help you find your style. Known for her AB closet editing method, she also includes tips on how to identify the pieces of your wardrobe that really represent who you are. There is also a useful section about nine universal pieces she recommends for every wardrobe, regardless of style.
The Way She Wears It, by Dallas Shaw, is another great style reference, full of Shaw’s own illustrations. This book reads like a style journal and is organized by season. There are even places for the reader to jot down their thoughts and feelings about their current style. This book helps readers develop their unique style, mix their wardrobe, and shop effectively.

If you haven’t been watching “Shrinking” on AppleTV+ you are missing out on the best-written series currently streaming. We love this show! I find myself laughing and teary-eyed multiple times each episode. The show is about a therapist, played by Jason Segel, who is trying to pick up the pieces after his wife suddenly dies. Doesn’t sound funny, but trust me, hilarity ensues when Segel’s character decides to start breaking the rules by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. The show also stars Harrison Ford as the grumpy lead psychiatrist in the practice who’s dealing with his own issues. If you loved Ted Lasso, you’ll love this series too.
