B2B Weekend Vibes #15

Welcome to B2B Weekend Vibes – a weekly roundup of current goings-on From the Bay to the Beach. Here you’ll find a few of my favorite things and a peek into my week. Yay – it’s Friday!

In this post – a fall trip to the Pacific Northwest, 3 baked pumpkin donut recipes, the Broadway show & Juliet, plus my favorite dressy jackets for fall and winter.

It’s been a rainy couple of days here in San Diego and it actually feels like fall. We had a pretty rainbow over the ocean one morning this week, along with some drizzle and actual rain! The weather forecast for the weekend is sunny, which is good because San Diegans do not function well in inclement weather.

Pumpkins in the PNW

Speaking of rain, we made a quick trip up to Spokane, Washington to visit our daughter last weekend. She took us up to the Greenbluff area outside of Spokane to visit the local farms. Although it is a little late in the season, there were still plenty of pumpkins in a rainbow of colors. I really wanted to take some home but since we flew that wasn’t happening.

It was cold and rainy that day but we toughed it out. Fortunately, pumpkin donuts make everything better.

We visited a total of three farms, but I really only took pics at the first one since the pumpkins were so amazing. We did a little shopping there, and then visited another farm where we did a some apple picking, because it is Washington state after all. It was a fun afternoon.

Pumpkin Donuts

Speaking of pumpkin donuts, I have some donut baking pans that I’m determined to use this fall. I’m now on a quest to find the best (and hopefully sorta healthy) pumpkin donut recipes to try. The yummy donuts that we had at the pumpkin farm were heavy with oil from the fryer, so I am interested in trying baked options.

Baked Pumpkin Donuts

The Taste of Home website has a baked pumpkin donut recipe that looks pretty straightforward. I like the addition of cinnamon and sugar on top!

Pumpkin Crumb Doughnuts with Brown Butter Frosting

The Krusteaz website has a yummy looking recipe for pumpkin crumb donuts with brown butter frosting. I like using ready-made baking mixes as a shortcut when I’m baking. This one uses their Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake Mix.

Pumpkin Chocolate Donuts

I was really excited to find this recipe. We love the Kodiak Power Cakes baking mixes for their healthy dose of protein. They have a pumpkin flavor that appears to make delicious donuts. The added chocolate makes them even more decadent. Can’t wait to try this one!

& Juliet at the San Diego Civic Theater

Since moving to San Diego as empty nesters we’ve enjoyed going to lots of live music and theater performances. The North American Tour of & Juliet has landed in San Diego and we were there for opening night. So much fun!

The show is about what might happen if Juliet didn’t die at the end of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. The story is told through the use of contemporary pop music. It’s a fast-paced and colorful production that makes you want to get up and dance. The Broadway trailer is below. I highly recommend seeing it if they make a stop in your area.

And, if you’re in the San Diego area and want to see live theater, check out the San Diego Civic Theatre. The building is beautiful and the seats (at least in the orchestra section) have lots of legroom, which we tall people appreciate. Whenever we see a Broadway show in NYC, I end up sitting sideways practically folded in half!

Favorite Dressy Jackets for Fall and Winter

I love outerwear, specifically light jackets and blazers. Here in California, we don’t really need heavy winter coats too often unless we’re up in the mountains or in a cold snap. Instead, I get a lot of use out of denim and linen jackets, and sometimes fleece or down vests. But, for those times when a denim jacket isn’t appropriate, I like to reach for dressier options.

Cinq a Sept

From Thanksgiving to the height of the holiday season, there are countless occasions to dress up—or at least look polished and put-together! If your calendar is starting to fill up with holiday events, you’ll want to take stock of your closet to see if you have the right outfits – and outerwear – for each occasion. Once of my very favorite brands for blazers and jackets is Cinq a Sept (translation: 5 to 7). I love the detail and tailoring of their blazers especially. Below are two of my favorite styles, along with some budget-friendly alternatives.

Hooded Khloe Blazer

I’ve worn this blazer to dinner, the theater and other events where a denim jacket feels a little too casual. It looks polished, but with with the sweatshirt hood and sleeves peeking out it has a little bit of a relaxed California-style vibe. I’ve found that it packs well, plus it comes in four color combinations.

Budget-Friendly Options

The Khloe Blazer can be a bit of a splurge, but there are other more budget-friendly options out there. This fully-lined hooded blazer comes in a lot of color combinations and looks more expensive than it is.

Another less expensive option is this lined jacket with pockets and a contrasting hood.

The Holly Jacket

Another one of my favorite Cinq a Sept pieces is the Holly Jacket. It’s cropped without being too short and it’s available in several different materials and colors The short sleeves have a ruched look and the zipper keeps the overall style more relaxed. For a dressier look, I like the velour, boucle and faux leather styles.

Budget-Friendly Options

This cute long sleeve jacket has similar styling, with the puff sleeve detail, cropped fit and the zipper closure.

Another cute option is this cropped blazer style with 3/4 length sleeves.

Nordstrom Jackets

If the event calls for something a bit fancier, this jacket with some sparkle would certainly get you noticed. This one can be dressed up or down.

I love the quilting detail on this jacket, plus the velvet adds a fancy touch.
