B2B Weekend Vibes #11

Welcome to B2B Weekend Vibes – a weekly roundup of current goings-on From the Bay to the Beach. Here you’ll find a few of my favorite things, a bit of home decor inspiration, and a peek into my week. Yay – it’s Friday!

In this post – coastal fall tablescape ideas, a new local San Diego Homeworthy episode and a quick trip to NYC.

Welcome back to B2B! My technical difficulties are behind me and it’s great to be able to say hi on this fine Friday in September. Now that fall is (almost) officially here I’m thinking about ways to bring it inside while still honoring our coastal location. We aren’t exactly putting on sweaters in San Diego in September. In fact, it’s the beginning of locals’ summer, a time when the tourists have gone back to their lives and the locals can enjoy their beautiful beaches in peace.

Our dog Belle loves this time of year because she can now run free on the local dog beach without a leash. There is absolutely nothing better than watching dozens of dogs frolic joyfully in the surf. I imagine that if there is a dog heaven it would look something like a dog beach.

Coastal Fall Tablescapes

Fall in the Bay Area is dramatically different from fall in San Diego. The weather gradually becomes cooler and the leaves turn brilliant shades of crimson, yellow and orange. It has a cozier feeling.

Since not much changes in terms of the weather here in San Diego, celebrating fall is more about acknowledging the date on the calendar. One simple way I like to celebrate this changing of the seasons here is to bring fall inside by creating a coastal tablescape. We’ve been doing some entertaining recently and it’s been fun setting pretty coastal fall tables for our family and friends.

The easiest way I’ve found to achieve the coastal fall look is through texture. Sisal placemats, linen napkins and fun sisal pumpkins add texture for a casual style.

To keep the tablescapes more coastal, I limit the palette to mostly neutrals and shades of blue or gray. Some touches of orange, yellow and brown add some traditional fall color. Below is a coastal fall tablescape from our last San Diego home. Orange pumpkins provide a pop of color against the blue table runner. The rest of the place settings are in neutral grays and whites. For more details about this tablescape, check out this post.

Fall florals, whether real or faux, add another natural element. You can limit the palette to sandy neutrals or you can use more vibrant traditional fall colors. Using whatever grows naturally in your area is a great choice.

Wheat bundles are another pretty way to add autumn texture to a table.

Bamboo flatware is my go-to for adding coastal style and texture to a tablescape. Bamboo works beautifully for a fall tablescape too as it adds more texture.

New Coastal Homeworthy Episode

I love finding Homeworthy episodes featuring homes that are near our place at the beach, so I was excited to stumble across this latest episode. I also love seeing how local designers decorate their own homes.

Located in Encinitas, this rustic home is the epitome of a modern surf shack. Designer Alexis Garrett has transformed a dated Tudor-style home into a white and bright family retreat.

My favorite thing about in this home are the collected pieces of art and furniture. I love that even though she’s a designer who has access to any kind of furnishings she could want, she instead decorates her home with personal mementos and meaningful objects. Enjoy!

A Quick Trip to NYC

This post is a bit shorter than normal because I’m writing it from a hotel room in the greater NYC area.

We happen to have several trips to the NYC area coming up between now and the end of the year. This weekend we are visiting our lovely daughter who has moved here recently for a new job. We are looking forward to seeing her and where she lives and works.

While we’re in the city we are planning on dinner and a show. Our favorite restaurant in the theater district is Becco, by celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich. I always order the Pollo al Limone. Yum!

We’re planning on seeing “The Outsiders” on Broadway. I’m really looking forward to it.

I think I read the book it’s based on back in high school. I know it’s been ages since I saw the 1983 movie version. If you’re of a certain age, you know that movie launched the Brat Pack of the 1980’s, including heartthrobs Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Esteves, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, and Leif Garrett.

This movie also resulted in thousands of movie posters, some of which ended up on my wall in high school. Anyone remember Teen Beat?

Thanks for being here today! I’m looking forward to sharing more about our adventures this weekend on the next B2B. Have a wonderful weekend!
