Creepy Coastal Door Swag

Today I’m sharing a quick and easy Halloween door decoration using some creepy faux branches and “see”shells.

Supplies Needed

Halloween faux plants, assorted lengths (I used 3 long stems, 4 shorter stems and 1 faux plant stem)

Small to medium seashells

Googly eyes

Black wired ribbon

Glue gun

Masking tape (or floral wire)

Scissors

Step 1: Tape Long Branches

Start by taping the longest stems together. If you have black electrical tape, you could use that so it doesn’t show. I used plain old masking tape.

Step 2: Tape Shorter Branches

Tape the 4 shorter branches together.

Step 3: Tape Bundles Together

Tape the shorter bundle to the longer bundle.

Next, if desired, layer the faux plant on top and attach to bundle by wrapping tape around stems. Set bundle aside.

Step 4: Wrap Stems

Wrap the stem of the bundle with ribbon. Secure with hot glue. I bent the stems to make a hook for hanging.

Step 5: Shells and Googly Eyes

Now it’s time to make your “see”shells. Select 8-10 small to medium shells that have interesting openings that could resemble mouths. I found it easier to use hot glue to attach the eyes to the shells instead of using the adhesive backs they come with.

I couldn’t help but smile when they were finished. They’re so cute!

Step 6: Make Bow

Cut two lengths of ribbon, one a few inches longer than the other. Trim ends in a “v” shape. Layer one on top of the other and tape together, or use floral wire to secure them. (For a more detailed set of instructions on how to make the bow, see this post.) Glue one of the “see”shells to the middle of the bow to hide the tape.

Step 7: Glue “See”shells to Swag

Use hot glue to carefully nestle the shells into the faux branches and greenery. Use a generous amount of glue and allow to cool completely before hanging the door swag.
